Auckland And Northland Win Farah Palmer Cup Finals

Auckland has beaten Canterbury 39-27 to win the Farah Palmer Cup for the first time since 2015, and Northland has won promotion to the Premier division for 2024 after beating Manawatu 32-29.

Farah Palmer Cup Finals Results

Canterbury women's rugby side have beaten Auckland 41-14 to win the Farah Palmer Cup Premiership for 2022. 

Hawkes Bay beat Otago 24-20 to win the Championship division, reversing the first round loss to Otago in what was their only loss for the season. Hawkes Bay's win result in promotion to the Premiership division for next year

Waikato Win Farah Palmer Cup Final

Waikato has won the Farah Palmer Cup Premiership for the first time, beating Canterbury 22-20 in Christchurch. In a week that had training interruptions for lockdowns in both Hamilton and the greater Waikato region, the Waikato team has reversed last years defeat to deny Canterbury. Waikato scored two tires to three, but crucially Canterbury lost two different players to the sin bin in the second half after repeated infringements on defense. After having the wind advantage in the first half, Canterbury led 13-3 at halftime, but Waikato came back in the second half using the wind to their advantage and spent long periods attacking the Canterbury line, leading to tries and Canterbury's yellow cards.

Farah Palmer Cup Finals

Waikato will face Canterbury in Christchurch on Saturday 9th October in the final of the Premiership division of the Farah Palmer Cup after beating Wellington 26-10 in Hamilton on Saturday, while Hawkes Bay will face Manawatu in Palmerston North for the Championship division after beating Northland 27-26 in Whangarei.

Waikato's NPC and Farah Palmer Cup sides have both had to relocate to Cambridge late on Sunday after a level 3 lockdown was announced to start at midnight covering Hamilton and Raglan after positive Covid cases. Team members have been isolated and will have to return negative cases before being allowed out to practice, with the team to either travel late Friday or Saturday morning to the final in Christchurch.

Farah Palmer Cup Semi-Final Matches

The preliminary finals of the Farah Palmer Cup take place this weekend, where Waikato and Wellington will play in Hamilton to see who faces Canterbury in the premiership final, and Northland will play Hawkes Bay in Whangarei to see who face Manawatu in the championship final. Several teams will loose players to a Black Ferns training camp in Mount Maunganui ahead of European tests against England and France in October, with Waikato having nine unavailable, Northland two, and Wellington three.

Farah Palmer Cup News

Auckland, Counties-Manukau and North Harbour have withdrawn from the 2021 Farah Palmer Cup after Covid alert levels left them unable to train.

The Premiership will continue to be played this weekend where Wellington will play Bay of Plenty in Mount Maunganui, to determine if Wellington will join Canterbury and Waikato in the finals matches. 

The Championship division will be a straight finals format where current leaders Manawatū Cyclones will be joined by Northland and Hawke’s Bay,

Farah Palmer Cup And NPC To Continue This Week.

NZ Rugby have announced the continuation of the NPC and Farah Palmer Cup without North Harbour, Auckland and Counties Manukau teams due to Auckland's level 4 Covid lockdown continuing.

The Farah Palmer Cup will continue on 18th September with Bay of Plenty facing Otago at Mount Maunganui, with Canterbury the bye, and Waikato v Counties Manukau and Wellington v Auckalnd unable to be played. On 25th-26th September Otago v Canterbury will be played in Dunedin, BOP v Wellington in Mount Maunganui, Taranaki v Hawkes Bay in Inglewood, Tasman v Manawatu in Nelson, with North Harbour v Northland and Auckland v Waikato unable to be played. Matches unable to be played be to level 4 lockdown will result in teams receiving two points each.

The NPC rounds for 17th-19th September will see Waikato v Canterbury in Hamilton, Taranaki v Wellington in Inglewood, Northland v Tasman in Whangarei, and Hawkes Bay v Bay of Plenty in Napier. For 24th- 26th September Tasman v Waikato is in Nelson, Manawatu v Northland in Palmerston North, Southland v Canterbury in Christchurch, Wellington v Hawkes Bay in Wellington, and Bay of Plenty v Taranaki in Tauranga. Further games and draw will be reviewed next week when more is known about Auckland lockdown levels.

Week three of the Farah Palmer Cup saw Canterbury head the premiership division with late try 23-22 win over the Wellington Pride after Wellington lost both Jackie Patea-Fereti and Joanah Ngan-Woo to the sin-bin in the 71st and 79th minutes. Counties Manukau beat Otago to move into third, Waikato beat Bay of Plenty, Manawatu beat Northland, Hawkes Bay beat North Harbour, and Taranaki beat Tasman.

Farah Palmer Cup Week One Results

The opening round of the 2021 Farah Palmer Cup has seen wins for Canterbury, Auckland and Wellington. Defending champions Canterbury had a nine tries to two 59-12 win over Counties Manukau in Christchurch on Saturday, with Black Ferns halfback Kendra Cocksedge getting a double as well as centre Grace Booker. Auckland has beaten Bay of Plenty 44-12 at Eden Park in wet conditions, with a second half surge after only leading 15-5 at halftime. On Sunday Wellington defeated Otago 13-5 at Jerry Collins Stadium, with their defense proving the difference. With lots of errors marring Otago's game, it wasn't until the 74th minute that right wing Daimzel Rongokea scored the first points for the visitors.
